ABOUT US
The Sons and Maids Youth Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in December 2000 by a group of dedicated Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena with strong cooperation from the Order of AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope. The main goal of our Foundation is to promote and support the educational, civic and leadership initiatives of young Hellene adults, and more specifically, to help fund and support the many worthwhile projects of the Sons and Maids. Historically, the Sons and Maids have raised thousands of dollars for a myriad of charities and have volunteered countless hours to literally hundreds of worthy projects. In addition, through sporting events, Miss AHEPA Pageants and other events, the Sons and Maids help perpetuate Hellenism.
The founders of the Sons and Maids Youth Foundation, Inc. however, noticed a disturbing trend. Slowly but surely, our young generation is losing its Greek identity, specifically our wonderful language, culture and history. Our young people know very little, if anything, about their Greek culture and history. Worse yet, as the United States and Canada becomes saturated with second, third and fourth generations of Greeks and more Greeks marry outside their faith (presently estimated at over 90%), our wonderful language is slowly being forgotten.
The Sons and Maids Youth Foundation, Inc.'s sole purpose will be to fund the types of programs that will reverse this recent trend. The Foundation will work hand in hand with the Sons and the Maids and the Order of AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope to accomplish this goal.
Currently the Board of Directors of the Sons and Maids Youth Foundation, Inc. is as follows:
- Chairman of the Board: Alex Sharpe
